A made to measure fire door is a complete door set, including the leaf, frame, glazing, seals and hardware, built to fit a specific opening. Standard fire doors come in fixed sizes and limited configurations, which works for many buildings but leaves gaps for projects with non standard openings, unusual layouts or specific design requirements.
Custom fire doors solve this problem. Rather than adjusting your opening to suit an off the shelf product, the door is engineered around your measurements from the start. At Aluminium Fire Systems, we fabricate every unit in our UK facility and can work directly from architectural drawings or technical specifications to achieve a precision fit.
This matters more with fire doors than with any other type of door. A fire door is a tested system, and every element must be compatible and covered by the fire test evidence for the rating to remain valid. Manufacturing the complete door set to size from the outset keeps the certified assembly intact, rather than relying on alterations on site.
We supply a versatile range of fire resistant windows, fire resistant doors and fire resistant glass partitions designed to meet the diverse architectural needs of Birmingham. Whether you are managing a Birmingham fire rated windows and doors, large-scale commercial warehouse or a multi-occupancy residential apartment block, our products are rigorously tested to ensure they are non-fire spreading (NRO) or non-fire propagating (NFP).
Bespoke fire doors are often the only practical option for older properties, complex layouts and architectural features that standard products cannot accommodate. They are also the preferred route where design matters as much as compliance, since the dimensions, proportions and finish can all be tailored.
Choosing fire doors made to measure brings several advantages:
Because our doors are built with slim aluminium profiles, large glazed areas can be achieved without affecting the fire rating. That combination of glazing and strength is difficult to achieve with standard timber products, which is one reason architects and contractors specify custom made fire doors in aluminium for commercial schemes.
We manufacture made to measure fire doors for both internal and external applications.
Our internal fire doors are commonly specified for stairwell enclosures, corridors, plant rooms and entrances to protected areas, where they maintain compartmentation and protect escape routes. Made to measure internal fire doors can be combined with fire rated glass partitions to create open, well lit spaces without compromising the fire strategy.
Our external fire doors are engineered for weather resistance and thermal performance as well as fire protection. They are often required where a building sits close to a boundary line or where a final exit leads into a narrow external escape route. For external fire rated doors, we provide full UKCA documentation to ensure you meet health and safety regulations.
Customisable designs for fire doors go well beyond size. When you order a custom size fire door from us, you can specify:
Glazed custom fire rated doors are a popular choice because they allow clear visibility for safe evacuation while keeping a fire safe compartment intact. If you are considering glazing options, our article on whether fire rated doors can have windows explains how vision panels and glazed doors are tested and certified.
Our fire rated aluminium doors are supplied with EI classifications under EN 13501-2, the current European standard for fire performance in glazed aluminium systems. EI rated products are tested for both integrity, which is resistance to the passage of flames and smoke, and insulation, which is resistance to heat transfer through the door. We supply EI30, EI60 and EI90 rated doors, providing 30, 60 and 90 minutes of certified protection respectively.
You may also see FD ratings, such as FD30, used elsewhere in the UK market. FD ratings often only guarantee integrity, whereas EI rated doors must also limit the temperature rise on the unexposed side. This keeps escape routes passable and prevents nearby materials from igniting, which makes EI the higher specification.
For our made to measure fire doors we use the Aluprof MB-78EI system, which covers single and double fire rated doors and technical windows from EI30 to EI90. Where a project also requires protection up to EI120, we fabricate fire rated windows and glazed screens using the MB-118EI system, which supports large glazing spans under extreme thermal stress
Ordering fire doors made to order with us is straightforward. We follow a Gateway process based on PRINCE2 methodology, with checkpoints from receipt of enquiry through to project closure, so every order is reviewed before it moves to the next stage.
Send us your drawings or measurements and we will prepare a bespoke quote.
Once approved, we procure high grade aluminium and certified fire rated glass, fabricate the frames and door sets in house, complete quality checks and prepare your documentation
Your made to measure fire doors and frames are then delivered to site ready for installation by your chosen installer, with all the technical data they need.
Our standard lead time from order to delivery is 8 weeks, covering standard specification and standard volumes. Once approved, we procure high grade aluminium and certified fire rated glass, fabricate the frames and door sets in house, complete quality checks and prepare your documentation.
We will review your technical drawings for compliance, and for high-risk buildings, we also request a copy of your fire strategy, so the products we specify match what the building needs.Because every door set is bespoke, several factors can extend the standard lead time: larger orders and high-volume projects, complex glazing configurations, hardware or RAL finishes outside our standard range, and periods of high demand across the industry.
Getting your drawings and documentation to us early is the best way to protect your lead time, and if your project is time sensitive, flag this when you enquire so we can tell you what's realistic before you order.

FAQs
Yes. Fire doors can be manufactured to bespoke dimensions, provided the complete door set is built and certified as a tested system. We manufacture made to measure fire rated aluminium door sets to your measurements or architectural drawings, with the leaf, frame, glazing and hardware all covered by the fire test evidence.
Yes. Bespoke fire doors are available as single doors, double doors and door sets with overpanels, side lights or adjoining glazed screens. Design options include custom dimensions, glazing configurations, powder coated finishes in a wide range of colours and hardware to suit the application.
Because every made to measure fire door is built to a unique specification, we provide bespoke quotes rather than a fixed price list. The cost depends on the dimensions, the fire rating required, the amount of glazing, the hardware specification and the volume ordered. Send us your drawings or measurements and we will prepare a quote for your project.
We supply made to measure fire doors rated EI30, EI60 and EI90, providing 30 to 90 minutes of certified integrity and insulation. The rating you need will depend on your building’s fire strategy and fire risk assessment, and our team can advise on the right specification for your project.
We are specialists in manufacture and supply. While we do not install, our products are designed for straightforward fitting and we provide an installation guide and all of the compliant fixings and accessories needed to install correctly.
Our standard lead time is 8 weeks from order to delivery. Larger orders, high-volume projects and complex specifications can extend this, so it’s worth sending your drawings or measurements as early as possible in your project timeline.
These projects don’t have a different standard lead time, but they’re more likely to fall into the fire strategy review step above and they’re often higher-volume orders, both of which can extend the schedule.
