Transformation of the Former Ladywell Shopping Centre, Newtown, Shropshire
Overview
The former Ladywell Shopping Centre, originally built in 1981, has undergone a significant transformation following its acquisition by developers EvaBuild in 2017. Located in the heart of Newtown, Shropshire, the redevelopment aims to revitalize the area by introducing a vibrant mix of cafes, bars, restaurants, and office spaces spanning 17,500 sq. ft. across three storeys.
Project Collaboration
This ambitious redevelopment project was driven by RTS Door Systems based in Shropshire who supply automatic doors, roller shutters and aluminium shop front doors. Along with the creative vision of architects Ke-Design, a firm known for innovative solutions that balance functionality and aesthetic appeal. Their design incorporates modern infrastructure while respecting the building’s history and local environment.

Our contribution to this project focused on ensuring the building meets stringent safety standards while maintaining a sleek, contemporary appearance. We supplied and installed an extensive range of Aluprof Systems fire rated windows and doors, specifically designed to enhance fire safety and protect occupants in emergencies. Key features of our installation include:
- Aluprof MB-78EI System
- Fire resistance rating: 30 minutes Integrity & Insulation (EI30)
- Smoke-proof thresholds to minimize the spread of smoke during fire emergencies.
- Polflam U=4.4 glazing, offering robust protection while maintaining transparency and aesthetic appeal.
- Single-glazed units tailored for the project’s safety and design requirements.
These installations were integral to achieving compliance with fire safety regulations while aligning with the project’s architectural vision.
